6 Weeks Summer Youth Leadership Initiative to help launch our Intergenerational Bridges Project (IBP)

(IBP) – Youth and Seniors in our communities engaging in interactive relationship building, by an exchange of intergenerational activities, to learn from one another as they serve one another, which will in turn benefit them and our communities.

The students that participated in the Awana Brite Friday Night LIVE and 2 other students with the Youth Opportunities Unlimited Summer Youth Employment Program Y.O.U. worked at the Ministry House with our 6 weeks Youth Leadership Initiative this summer. The two students were paid through the Y.O.U. Program.  This was the launching of The Intergenerational Bridges Project! It was indeed a working and learning experience for each of them! Ministry of Reconciliation (MOR) was blessed to provide a stipend to all the students from the Awana Brite Friday Night LIVE. They did much more work than what they received a stipend for. Most of them didn’t know they were going to receive a stipend and were willing to volunteer as young servant leaders! (MOR) purchased extra equipment: cell phones, laptops, production lighting and sound equipment for the youth to use during the Summer Youth Leadership Initiative and ongoing!

Youth Leadership Initiative Activities

  • Our days began with Character Building Education that included fun and interactive activities for all the students: helping to develop in them Honesty, Respect, Self-Control, Responsibility and more!
  • We continued to engage the AWANA Friday Night LIVE Students in the Word of God, for their Spiritual Growth and Leadership Development!
  • The students searched and prepared lists of Nursing Home Facilities, Assisted and Independent Living Facilities and Senior Centers to set up opportunities to serve the Seniors throughout Greater Cleveland.
  • They learned business telephone etiquette and prepared themselves with Telephone Scripts to make phone calls to the Facilities and documented the results.
  • They set up dates and times with a few of the facilities to go in and serve the seniors.
  • They learned how to prepare excel spreadsheets and documented all of the data they received.
  • They learned how to set up and run production lighting and sound equipment to be used at the Nursing Home Facility and Ministry House
  • They also assisted (MOR) in recruiting Churches and individuals for our Adopt-A-School Network through phone calls and sending emails, etc. as a preparation to reach more youth in the upcoming school year.

We truly thank God for these Young Servant Leaders that were open to learn, grow, work and serve throughout the entire 6 weeks!

Our Youth Leadership Initiatives and (IBP) will take place throughout all of 2022!

Some Senior Facilities are looking for us to bring the youth to serve their Seniors during the Students School Vacation Days and Weeks!

We thank God for Rena Landrum, Greta Willis and Shalom Stevens who did an awesome job serving as Assistant Supervisors and that we were able to give them a stipend! We also thank God for our dear sister Mildred Chambless who had committed to serve and would have, had not her husband Chuck went home to be with the Lord.
